Planning Violence Prevention Interventions: Setting Goals and Objectives

This tool describes the goals and objectives of violence prevention interventions in schools that should be based on what has been learned from an analysis of the situation as to the extent of, and reasons for, violence-related problems among students and within the community as a whole. This information will assist all those involved in health promotion activities at the school to develop goals and objectives adapted to a given context.This document explains how violence affects the well being and learning potential of millions of children around the world. It is intended to help individuals advocate for and implement violence prevention efforts through schools and puts forward strong arguments for initiating efforts to address violence prevention through schools. It also describes the concept and qualities of a Health-Promoting School, along with specific ways in which schools can begin to use their organizational capacity to prevent violence.

Planning Violence Prevention Interventions –Conducting a Situation Analysis

After describing what a situation analysis consists of, this tool then sets out the reasons for conducting such an analysis, who should be involved in the process and what information is needed. A list of questions and answers is then set out to assist in determining local needs and strengths with examples of indicators that can help describe a local situation, along with some useful sources of information.
