Service Coordination - Practitioners Network

The Forum included speakers from a variety of organizations including; The Banyule Nillumbik Primary Care Alliance, North East Primary Mental Health Team, Banyule Community Health, Austin Health, Nexus and a consumer. The information presented included an overview of the prevalence of mental health disorders in the Banyule-Nillumbik catchment and some of the issues that affect access to services by these clients. This was followed by a description of the various pathways that might exist for a client within the Acute/Sub-Acute and Community sectors with brief information on eligibility and the referral processes involved. The last part of the session provided strategies that agencies can implement to improve service access for clients with mental health issues. The Speaker presentations are attached below in a zip file. This session was designed as an introduction to the various elements of the Mental Health system. Due to the complex nature of the topic, the Adult system was the main focus of the forum, however some printed material and resources was available on Infant/Child, Youth, Aged and Specialist Mental Health services as well as Community supports. The forum allowed workers to ask questions about various aspects of the Mental Health system and this contributed to a very positive outcome for the forum. Catering was provided by the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre and over food, much networking and further discussion about promoting Mental Health pathways and services was undertaken. Thank you to all the speakers and those who helped out on the day. Also thank you to all those who attended on the day or requested information to take back and share with other staff at their place of work.
